Visioning Prayer

March 28, 2016

Over the past year, our church has begun wading into a visioning process, listening for the call of God upon our church in this place and time. Who would God have us be? Who would God have us serve? Where might God be whispering new dreams and visions to us, that we might be led to a bright and impactful future?
During our recent visioning workshops, we have been bathing our meetings in prayer, using the following words:
Loving God, source of all we are and all we might yet be, you have watched over this congregation for nearly three centuries.
You have blessed us with forbears whose lives have been true, lovely, and brave; whose stories we tell, whose memories we cherish, and whose witness has shaped this church, town, and world.
We praise you for the many ways you have sustained us, sustain us still, and bless us to be a blessing.
We give you thanks for the Spirit moving in our midst. In this time of discernment, keep our ears tuned to your still-speaking voice, our hearts open to your tiptoed entrance, our reflection grounded in Scripture, our love enlivened by your gentle touch, and our discipleship true to the calling of Christ.
Bless us with humility, patience, hope, optimism, and joy. Through our work, bind our hearts to you, strengthen our love for one another, and deepen our compassion for all your creation.
Enable us to hear your voice and to see in our mind’s eye your vision and will for us, that we may arise with courage and conviction, affirming with the prophets of old: “Your will, O God is our dearest desire.  We, your people, stand ready.  Send us!”
Amen.
