The Supper Book Club
January 3, 2025
From Pastor Brent:
I have always been drawn to good conversations about interesting books while enjoying a savory meal. I am delighted to invite you to be a part of just such an endeavor in the new year.
A cherished friend and colleague Mark Longhurst published a delightful new book called The Holy Ordinary – A Way to God. Mark is the former pastor up in Williamstown and now works as part of Richard Rohr’s Center for Action and Contemplation. Mark’s writing style is that wonderful combination of being deeply insightful and thoroughly approachable. In his Preface, Mark describes this book as a way to have a deeper relationship with God in practical and simple ways that are grounded deeply and that allow us to also go about living our lives. I have always known Mark to be fun loving, deeply faithful, and super smart. I have no doubt that his book will bring all three together in ways that will bring insight and possibility to our lives too.
The plan is simple: we will gather three times to read his 156-page book gathered around a simple supper table. Participants would be expected to try to attend all three of the sessions in person. I am hoping for the meals to be simple and potluck.
The dates for the gatherings will be:
- Wednesday Jan 22 – 6:00pm – JE Room
- Wednesday March 26 – 6:00pm – JE Room
- Wednesday April 30 – 6:00 PM – JE Room
Please contact me directly to find out more information about this initiative or to indicate your interest. I will place an order so that we can get the books locally. I look forward to sharing together around a table. Brent
