Announcing: Our New Minister of Music!

January 30, 2014

Catherine Schane-LydonIt is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that we report that the First Congregational Church of Stockbridge has followed what we feel is God’s call and identified our next Minister of Music. By unanimous recommendation of the Search Committee, and the unanimous vote of the Church Council, Catherine Schane-Lydon will become our Minister of Music and assume leadership of our talented and joy-filled music program.
Cathy brings a strong background in music ministry, having served at the First Congregational Church of Lee for nearly twenty years and, most recently, at Saints Patrick and Raphael Parish in Williamstown. She has directed church choirs; accompanied worship services; served on the faculty at Springfield College; is a composer, arranger and an excellent accompanist. Her educational background includes a B.A. from Simon’s Rock College, an M.Ed. from Springfield College and continuing education at the Westminster Choir College and the Hartt School of Music in choral conducting.
Cathy brings to our music program great skill at both the organ and the piano, an interest in the full range of musical expression within the church, a repertoire in both classical sacred music and hymnody, a commitment to faith and worship, boundless energy, and a can-do attitude.
Following her musical leadership in worship on January 26th, where she was presented to the congregation as the Committee’s candidate of choice, there was a palpable buzz and excitement in the air. Cathy conducted a choir that was full and lively, played the organ and piano with depth of expression, and helped open our hearts and minds to God’s spirit in the room. Please join us in welcoming Cathy and supporting her as she helps lead us to a bright musical future at the First Congregational Church!
Cathy will start the week of February 3rd.
