Wednesday Morning Prayer to Continue on a Permanent Basis

Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Starting April 6, Wednesday morning prayer, which has been offered seasonally during Advent and Lent the past few years, will relaunch as an ongoing gathering. Coffee and tea will be available starting at 7:45AM. The service will begin at 8:00AM and conclude by 8:25AM.
Whether you’re a seasoned prayer warrior or haven’t prayed since you were a child, everyone is invited to this quiet, contemplative time where we will draw closer to God and one another through prayer and sharing. Following a brief time of centering, we will pray both naming the things that are on our hearts and minds as well as allowing silence to make room for God’s response.
Part of being a person of faith is always being drawn ever more deeply into our own faith life and relationship with God while also and simultaneously being drawn outward into love and relationship with neighbor. In fact, many would argue that part of the wisdom behind Jesus’ naming of the two commandments is that one may not be completely possible without the other. That they both mutually reinforce and support one another.
Our prayers will take place in three overlapping ways. We will begin with a time to think about the things that touch our personal lives including those we know and love. We will then honor the prayers lifted in worship on Sunday. Finally, we will extend our thoughts and prayers to those with whom we share no personal knowledge but with whom we share a connection as fellow beloved children of God made in God’s image.
Beyond “doing” those three things, it is the hope that we simply deepen our prayer practices and life together. From previous incarnations of the morning prayer, people have shared how this time together has been a gift and blessing and has helped to develop relationship and connection.
