Lenten Study: Understanding the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ
January 24, 2025
The Rev. Dr. Rick Floyd and Jeremy Ridenour are offering a six-week course during Lent that will provide an overview of the doctrine of the atonement. Atonement theories provide a narrative to understand how the death and resurrection of Jesus saves us from sin, death, and evil. Throughout church history, there has never been a single, orthodox account of this doctrine, which has led to various metaphors, motifs, and narratives to explain how Jesus’s death and resurrection redeems. The group will review the history of the doctrine and will read portions of Rick’s book When I Survey the Wondrous Cross: Reflections on the Atonement.
The group will meet for six consecutive Thursdays throughout the season of Lent: March 6, 13, 20, 27 and April 3 and 10. The meetings will take place from 6:00-7:00 pm at the church. Please call the office (413-298-3137) if you would like to participate, so that we can order you a copy of Rick’s book.
