Job Opening: Minister of Music

November 12, 2019

The First Congregational Church of Stockbridge seeks a dynamic and visionary leader for our music ministry. An Open and Affirming Congregation located in the Berkshires, we are blessed with great musical resources within the church and the wider community. We revel in beautiful, high-quality music that stirs the soul, expands our faith, and enhances our worship of God. The ideal candidate will be a gifted organist, pianist and choir director with deep knowledge of the sacred musical tradition, both ancient and modern, as well as the ability to integrate other styles (from jazz to gospel to bluegrass to folk) that can touch our diverse congregation. Our music program includes a talented choir (strong amateur singers plus paid section leaders), Johnson organ, Steinway B and Yamaha C pianos, lay-led bell choir and children’s choir, and budget for regular guest musicians.

We are a congregation that is alive and growing–in numbers, engagement, and depth of faith–facing the needs, opportunities and challenges of our time. Our history includes names like Jonathan Edwards and Reinhold Niebuhr and yet we are just as excited about our present and our future. We offer a friendly and collaborative staff, flexibility of scheduling, and a warm-hearted and enthusiastic congregation. We are committed to compensation reflective of experience and available salary guidelines. Our church has energy, life, and vision, and we are excited about calling a new Minister of Music to help write the next chapter of our history.
