Hurricane Sandy Service Trip Touches Lives

June 2, 2014

In late May, a team from the First Congregational Church of Stockbridge went out into the world to bring love and hope. Although Hurricane Sandy seems like a distant memory, there are still many places in New York and New Jersey that have yet to be repaired or restored. Outgoing Mission and Action Chair Terry Wise partnered with another church to bring a group down to Atlantic City and spent a week working on various rebuilding projects. The group worked on a small two-story hope performing sheetrock installation, electrical work, framing, taping and joint work. Terry found meaning in the community that was formed among the twelve people who were part of the team.
The family that was served suffered both the physical loss of their home and personal tragedy in the wake of Sandy. The family had been turned down by all contractors to do work on the house. They were connected with Atlantic City Long Term Recovery, who helped bring in the group that worked on their home. The family is finally getting their feet back under them and Terry reports that it was a joy to be a part of helping even one family get a fresh new start.
