Hold the Date! Special Screening Event “An American Conscience: The Reinhold Niebuhr Story”

January 24, 2017

On Saturday, February 4 at 6:00 p.m., the first Congregational Church of the United Church of Christ in Stockbridge will hold a special advance screening of the new film “An American Conscience: The Reinhold Niebuhr Story.” This film, done by award winning Journey Films, portrays Niebuhr as the most celebrated public theologian of the 20th Century and includes interviews with President Jimmy Carter, Andrew Young, David Brooks, Cornell West, Susannah Heschel and more.
Following the film, we are very fortunate to have Professor Gary Dorrien, the Reinhold Niebuhr Professor of Social Ethics at Union Seminary in New York, lead a discussion along with the producer Martin Doblmeier. Given our times and the current political dynamics of this nation, the evening promises to be helpful, inspiring and grounding. Given Niebuhr’s connection to the Berkshires and his ongoing importance to the Church writ large, it promises to be an event that might help us all contemplate how we are called to be in these times.
A voluntary donation of $10 will be accepted but not required. Childcare will be available.
