Christian Ed News: Inter-Church Youth Group, Youth Service Opportunity, Gospel of John Update

November 5, 2015

A young boy plays as part of the Christian Education program at the First Congregational Church of StockbridgeThe Christian Education Committee is actively exploring new and creative ways to engage the children of our church more directly with the community.

  • We are beginning conversations with other churches in South County to create an inter-church youth group (for middle school and high school).
  • Through the leadership of Cathy Clark, we are organizing a youth service project on November 14 (the day of the church fall clean-up). This will allow both parents and children to participate in service. Cathy has spoken with Construct, Inc. and we are going to be assembling forty hygiene and care packages for both men and women. We will be using a generous donation from Women’s Service League to fund the project.
  • Although we are also sad to see our beloved Jodi Pow leave her duties in the nursery to spend more time with her family, we are working with Brent and others to find a suitable replacement. In the meantime, many volunteers have stepped up to fill in the gap. We still need some nursery volunteers, so contact the church office or sign up in the Jonathan Edwards Room.

For adults, we are continuing to work our way through the Gospel of John. Participants are finding these meetings both enlightening and informative. It has been both a challenge and a blessing to find ways to think about what the Gospel means and how to share our faith with others.
