Climate Change: A Faith-Based Study
- Date: Thursday, April 21, 2016
- Time: 5:30pm–6:45pm
In his second encyclical, Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home, Pope Francis draws all Christians into a dialogue with every person on the planet about our common home. We as human beings are united by the concern for our planet and every living thing that dwells on it, especially the poorest and most vulnerable. Pope Francis’ letter joins the body of the Church’s social and moral teaching and draws on the best scientific research, providing the foundation for the “ethical and spiritual itinerary that follows.”
In this six-week study, we will read and discuss Francis’ encyclical and consider the causes, implications and responses to climate change. Our priority will NOT be to discover any single proper course of action, but rather to have open dialogue about how our faith might inform our consideration of and response to one of the greatest issues of our time.
Books are available through the church office ($10 suggested donation) or easily accessed on-line for purchase or download. This study is a joint venture of the Green Team, the Board of Christian Education and the Board of Mission and Action. It will be facilitated by Pastor Brent. Should there be significant interest in a daytime section we will consider adding one.
Please sign up in the Jonathan Edwards Room or by calling the Church Office (413-298-3137).
